Servings: 2 - Prep: 10 min - Cook: 15 min - Total: 25 min

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain flour

  • 1 cup boiling water

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • Salt

  • vegetable oil

Instruction

  1. In a bowl, combine the flour, a pinch of salt, baking powder, oil, and boiling water; mix well.

  2. Fill a churro maker or piping bag fitted with a star nozzle — a 1.5-2 cm width is ideal — with the dough.

  3. Pipe the churros onto baking paper, cutting them to your preferred size, then allow them to rest for 20 minutes.

  4. For the chocolate sauce, in a saucepan, add the double cream (or heavy cream) and chocolate pieces. Melt the chocolate over low heat, stirring frequently to ensure it doesn't boil.

  5. Begin heating the oil for the churros. If available, use a heat thermometer to reach a temperature of 170°C (338°F). Be cautious as overheated oil can cause the churros to burst. Fry the churros in batches in the hot oil until they are golden brown and crisp, which should take about 1-2 minutes. Use a fork to turn them for even cooking.

  6. Once done, remove the churros and let them drain on a kitchen paper-lined tray.

  7. While still hot, roll the churros in sugar or a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.

  8. Serve the churros with warm chocolate sauce and enjoy.
